Kruger, the Montréal-based company active in paper, packaging, renewable energy and consumer products, is accelerating its long-term transformation with a strategy rooted in sustainability, modernization and circularity.
A series of major projects in Québec and Newfoundland and Labrador reinforce its position as one of the most active industrial players in Canada’s forest sector.
In 2025, Kruger announced a CAD 16-million investment to expand its recycling operations in Trois-Rivières. The goal is clear: build a circular economy hub in the Mauricie region and increase the recovery and reuse of recycled fibres that supply the company’s Québec mills.
That same year, Kruger unveiled an investment plan of up to CAD 700 million to modernize and diversify Corner Brook Pulp & Paper in Newfoundland and Labrador. The project seeks to secure the mill’s long-term future through more energy-efficient processes and the addition of new fibre-based products.
Kruger also received an EcoVadis Gold rating in 2025, placing it among the top 5% of companies worldwide for environmental, social and governance performance. This recognition builds on the company’s 2024 Sustainability Report and its measurable targets.
New carbon capture project at the Wayagamack mill
Kruger has also reached a key milestone in its carbon capture project at the Wayagamack mill in Trois-Rivières. Construction is moving forward, and several major components have now been delivered to the site.
Starting in 2026, the demonstration unit is expected to capture up to five tonnes of CO₂ per day, which will be reused directly in the paper manufacturing process. Developed with Mantel, an MIT-originated company, the technology represents an industrial first and could redefine how carbon is recovered and reused in the pulp and paper sector.

Clear sustainability and growth objectives
Kruger’s plan includes reducing greenhouse gas emissions across the organization, improving industrial energy efficiency and lowering water consumption. The company also aims to reduce environmental incidents and strengthen health and safety across all sites.
On the energy front, Kruger Energy expects to increase installed capacity from 650 MW to 993 MW by 2028 through new wind developments and upgrades to existing infrastructure in Québec.
Kruger continues to play a central role in materials recovery: in 2024, its recycling division diverted nearly 973,000 tonnes of materials from landfill.
These initiatives support modernization and diversification across Kruger’s Québec tissue and packaging mills, including Sherbrooke, where new production lines and high-efficiency equipment have been operating since 2024.

With concrete projects, measurable targets and major investments in both recycling and renewable energy, Kruger is shaping a growth strategy grounded in innovation, circularity and lower-carbon fibre solutions.
