Mondi has successfully launched operations at its newly converted recycled containerboard machine in Duino, Italy, completing the investment on schedule.

This strategic milestone enhances the company’s capacity to deliver high-quality, sustainable packaging materials across Europe.

The new machine, designed to produce 420,000 tonnes of recycled containerboard annually, will use 100% recovered fibre. Its output will support lightweight, fully recyclable corrugated packaging, meeting growing demand in sectors such as eCommerce and consumer goods.

“Starting up this machine on time is a fantastic achievement and a testament to the dedication and expertise of our team,” said Markus Gärtner, CEO of Mondi Corrugated Packaging. “With Mondi Duino now part of our integrated value chain, we are excited to serve our customers with sustainable packaging solutions from our expanded network of six containerboard mills worldwide.”

The Duino mill’s integration into Mondi’s production network not only strengthens supply chain resilience but also contributes to local economic activity. The company plans to source materials locally whenever possible, reducing transport emissions and reinforcing its climate goals.
