Canfor Corporation announced that its Swedish subsidiary, Vida AB, has completed the acquisition of AB Karl Hedin Sågverk.
The deal, first disclosed in July, adds roughly 230 million board feet to Vida’s annual production capacity, bringing the company’s total to approximately 2.1 billion board feet.
The acquisition includes three sawmills located in Karbenning, Krylbo, and Säter. “We are excited to welcome the employees at AB Karl Hedin Sågverk into the Canfor family,” said Susan Yurkovich, President and CEO of Canfor. “This acquisition strengthens Vida’s geographic footprint, increases access to high-quality timber resources in Sweden, and continues to diversify Canfor’s operations globally.”
Expanding Capacity and Global Reach
Vida AB, Sweden’s largest privately owned sawmill company, is 77% owned by Canfor. The integration of AB Karl Hedin Sågverk expands its position in Central Sweden, providing access to valuable timberlands while enhancing production flexibility across Europe.
For Canfor, headquartered in Vancouver, British Columbia, the acquisition reflects a broader strategy of global diversification. The company operates more than 50 facilities across Canada, the United States, and Europe, producing lumber, engineered wood, pulp, paper, pellets, and green energy.
Canfor is a global leader in low-carbon forest products, manufacturing dimension and specialty lumber, engineered wood products, pulp and paper, wood pellets, and green energy. The company holds a 77% interest in Vida AB and a 54.8% stake in Canfor Pulp Products Inc. Canfor shares are listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange under the symbol CFP.
