Pixelle Specialty Solutions has updated its WARN Act notice to employees at the Chillicothe Paper Mill, confirming that operations will cease by August 10, 2025.

The company cited recent declines in staffing and customer demand as factors making further delay untenable.

The announcement follows an earlier closure notice issued in April. Since then, Pixelle has worked with government and community partners to examine alternatives. Despite those efforts, the company now says that a continued pause is no longer viable.

Pixelle emphasized its continued commitment to supporting affected employees through career transition services, job placement assistance, and access to its Employee Assistance Program.

As production winds down, the company is collaborating with JobsOhio and federal, state, and local officials to explore redevelopment options for the site. If a qualified buyer is not found, Pixelle plans to transfer the property to a government-designated entity for nominal consideration to facilitate long-term redevelopment in the Chillicothe and Ross County communities.

Pixelle noted that it remains open to sale opportunities but is preparing for decommissioning in parallel. The company recognized the contributions of the facility’s workforce and reaffirmed its intention to ensure a responsible transition.
