Corner Brook Mill Set for Phased Return in February

Industry News

Corner Brook Pulp and Paper (CBPPL) is preparing to gradually resume operations at its paper mill in early February, signaling a cautious return to production following a recent period of limited activity.

The restart will be phased, allowing the company to align operating levels with market conditions and workforce readiness as crews return across key areas of the mill. CBPPL said the approach is intended to ensure a stable and controlled ramp-up.

“Our teams are working to bring operations back online in a structured and responsible manner,” the company said, adding that conditions will continue to be closely monitored as the restart progresses.

CBPPL operates Newfoundland and Labrador’s only paper mill and remains a cornerstone of the province’s industrial base. Beyond paper production, its operations include the Deer Lake Power hydroelectric facilities and integrated forestry activities that supply fibre to the mill.

The site produces newsprint for North American and international markets and supports more than 1,000 direct and indirect jobs across the province.

Corner Brook Pulp and Paper has been owned by Montréal-based Kruger Inc. since 1984. Founded in 1904, Kruger is a privately held family company active in tissue, recycled containerboard, packaging, pulp and paper, and renewable energy, with operations across Canada and the United States.
