Interfor announced new temporary curtailments for the fourth quarter of 2025, citing continued weakness in lumber markets and broader economic uncertainty.
The move will reduce the company’s total lumber production by approximately 250 million board feet, or 26% compared with second-quarter levels.
The curtailments will affect operations across British Columbia, Ontario, the U.S. Pacific Northwest, and the U.S. South, with reductions split roughly evenly between Interfor’s Canadian and American mills.
Interfor produced 936 million board feet in the second quarter and about 910 million in the third quarter of 2025. The company described this latest adjustment as an extension of curtailments first announced in early September.
“Lumber prices in all regions of North America have continued to weaken, from already unsustainably low levels,” said Ian Fillinger, Interfor’s President & CEO. “Our revised operating plans for the fourth quarter reflect our disciplined approach to match production with reduced market demand. While necessary, we fully recognize the impact these actions will have on our employees, contractors, suppliers, and communities.”
Interfor said it will continue to monitor market conditions and adjust production as needed.
Interfor is a growth-oriented forest products company with operations in Canada and the United States. The company has an annual lumber production capacity of approximately 4.7 billion board feet and supplies a broad range of lumber products to customers worldwide.
