Progroup has officially launched regular operations at its newest corrugated sheetfeeder plant in Cessalto, northern Italy.

The facility, completed on time and within budget, marks a key milestone in the German family-owned company’s European growth strategy and strengthens its presence in the Italian market.

Equipped with state-of-the-art automation, the plant runs at 400 metres per minute with a working width of 3.35 metres, producing Next Generation® corrugated board sheets at low grammages. With an annual capacity of around 200,000 tonnes, the Cessalto site underscores Progroup’s focus on efficiency, reliability, and sustainable production.

“This plant embodies technological progress, entrepreneurial vision and excellent teamwork,” said Progroup CEO Maximilian Heindl. “We are investing not only in high-performance production, but also in a strong, long-term future with our Italian customers.”

Packaging park model boosts efficiency

Like its earlier sites, PW16 in Cessalto operates under Progroup’s packaging park concept, linking production directly to its customer Ondulkart. Corrugated sheets are conveyed from a fully automated high-bay warehouse with about 15,000 storage spaces straight into Ondulkart’s packaging facility. This eliminates truck transport between the companies, cutting operating costs and avoiding dozens of daily deliveries.

“The packaging park in Cessalto is a strategic milestone,” said Ondulkart CEO Antonio Pesce. “It allows us to serve customers with unmatched speed, quality, and sustainability.”

Sustainability at the core

By removing road deliveries, the model reduces CO₂ emissions, while Progroup’s lightweight Next Generation sheets lower raw material use. “We actively contribute to the ecological transformation of packaging,” noted Progroup Chief Sales Officer Vinzenz Heindl.

Cessalto is Progroup’s second Italian sheetfeeder after Drizzona. Together, they expand production capacity in Europe’s largest corrugated board market, reinforcing the company’s long-term strategy of sustainable growth and close customer partnerships.

Progroup AG, based in Landau, Germany, is a leading European producer of containerboard and corrugated board. Founded in 1991, the family-owned company operates three paper mills, fourteen corrugated sheetfeeder plants, and other facilities across six countries. In 2024, it employed over 1,700 people and generated revenues of €1.3 billion.
