Many tissue mills face the ongoing challenge of sustaining high production standards while navigating workforce changes and developing expertise in key process areas.
This knowledge gap can lead to inefficiencies, frequent operational errors, high maintenance costs, and inconsistent product quality. That’s where specialized technical training makes a difference.
Kadant Johnson Europe B.V. provides a dedicated training program for tissue machine operators who are new to the industry or need to improve the performance of their tissue production operations.
The training focuses on:
- Managing critical stages of the tissue making process
- Understanding the function of key components
- Understanding how different production stages influence one another
Case Study: On-Site Training at a Tissue Mill
A tissue mill in Turkey approached Kadant for help due to operational issues linked to limited operator experience. The team had an opportunity to expand their comprehensive understanding of the whole tissue production process. The Kadant training emphasized the management of essential systems like the Yankee coating, doctor and creping blades and holder setup, and chemical usage.
Kadant organized a two-day, on-site technical training session. The training modules covered were:
- Tissue machine flow diagrams
- Stock preparation and process chemistry
- Difference between ceramic and steel doctor blades
- Yankee surface materials
- Yankee coating application: components, surface conditions, dosage, and key parameters
- Blade geometry: creping angles, stick out, achieving bulk and softness
- Blade wear analysis and replacement criteria
- Blade holder types, differences, working principles and spare part maintenance
- Factors affecting tissue quality
- Creping efficiency calculations
Elevated Operational Performance
The results were clear within weeks; operators gained a broader understanding of how their work influences upstream and downstream stages of the process. This cross-functional awareness improved parameter management and enhanced coordination across roles. With improved handling of components and a more structured approach to daily operations, the team significantly increased overall efficiency.
Ultimately, the training elevated the team’s technical competence and operational discipline, making them more skilled, aware, and proactive. Operators are now capable of not only executing tasks but also preventing issues and contributing to continuous improvement efforts.
