A 30-year-old machine operator drowned after a workplace accident at the Catalyst pulp mill in British Columbia. Investigations are ongoing.
A 30-year-old worker died Wednesday in a tragic industrial accident at the Catalyst Pulp and Paper Mill in Crofton, on Vancouver Island.
Around noon, a piece of heavy equipment the man was operating fell into the ocean with him trapped inside. Despite rapid intervention by Canadian Coast Guard divers, supported by RCMP, BC Ambulance, and local fire crews, the man could not be revived.
The RCMP, WorkSafeBC, and the BC Coroners Service have launched investigations to determine the cause of the incident.
Authorities have not released the victim’s name or further details about the equipment involved.
