International News

Mondi has officially marked the start-up of its converted Duino mill in Italy with an event attended by more than 70 customers and partners from across Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa.

The €200 million investment transforms the site into a high-quality recycled containerboard mill, underlining Mondi’s commitment to sustainable packaging and reliable supply.

€200 Million Investment in Sustainable Capacity

Following the successful conversion of an existing paper machine, the Duino mill will produce up to 420,000 tonnes of recycled containerboard annually once fully ramped up. The product range includes waste-based fluting starting at 80 gsm, testliner from 90 gsm upwards, and reels from 0.95 m to 3.35 m on what is now Mondi’s widest recycled paper machine.

The investment expands Mondi’s recycled containerboard portfolio and enhances integration across its global network, strengthening security of supply for customers in local and international markets. The mill’s location near key ports also supports efficient delivery to global markets.

Commitment to Customers and Growth

“Launching this mill on time shows the strength and commitment of our team and is illustrative of our long-term promise to our containerboard customers,” said Klaus Peller, COO Mondi Containerboard. “With this paper machine, we are investing in their future too – ensuring resilient supply, sustainable packaging products, great service and the opportunity to grow together.”

Mondi now operates six containerboard mills worldwide, offering a portfolio that spans fully recycled grades to 100% virgin fibre. The addition of Duino strengthens the company’s integrated value chain and provides corrugated packaging customers with broader choice and capacity.
