Södra will invest more than SEK 1 billion in its Kinda sawmill in southern Östergötland, one of the largest investments in the company’s sawmill operations.
The decision secures the long-term future of the facility and responds to growing demand for timber in sustainable construction.
The project will raise production capacity by 50 percent to 300,000 cubic meters of sawn timber annually by 2028. It also includes a new pellet mill with a capacity of 25,000 tons, with potential for future developments such as biocarbon production.
According to Södra, the sawmill’s location near raw materials and markets strengthens its competitiveness in both Sweden and abroad. The investment is also expected to benefit local employment and the regional economy.
Södra is Sweden’s largest forest-owner association, with more than 50,000 members. The company produces sawn timber, pulp, and bio-based products, and plays a key role in advancing sustainable forestry and the green transition.
