Mondi has reaffirmed its commitment to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across its value chain by 2050, following validation of its updated baseline by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
The revised 2019 baseline reflects Mondi’s current operations, incorporating the acquisitions of Duino, Hinton, and Schumacher while excluding its former Russian operations. According to the company, this adjustment ensures that its climate targets accurately represent its evolving global footprint while maintaining the same level of ambition.
Mondi’s targets, originally set in alignment with the Paris Agreement, remain unchanged. The company aims to reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 46.2% and Scope 3 emissions by 27.5% by 2030, both from a 2019 baseline. Its Scope 1 and 2 targets are aligned with the goal of limiting global warming to 1.5°C.
“As a business, we recognize the importance of taking measurable, science-based action to tackle climate change,” Mondi stated. “Through efficiency improvements and sustainable product innovation, we continue to deliver value while contributing to a low-carbon economy.”
The reaffirmation follows several years of progress in reducing greenhouse gas emissions across Mondi’s operations, supported by investments in renewable energy, process optimization, and circular product design. The company says it remains focused on transparent reporting and accountability as it advances toward its long-term net-zero goal.
Mondi is a global leader in sustainable packaging and paper solutions. Operating in more than 30 countries, the company designs innovative products made from renewable fibres and invests in low-carbon technologies to reduce its environmental footprint and support a circular economy.
