The Carton Council has awarded $75,634 CAD through its 2025 School Grant Program to 19 schools across Canada and the U.S. to support new or expanded food and beverage carton recycling initiatives.
From April 1 to May 31, 2025, schools competed to secure funding to purchase new sorting bins and signage, launch student-led green teams, train staff, and run educational recycling campaigns. Ten Canadian schools and nine U.S. schools were selected.
The grants aim to put carton recycling into practice in K–12 settings—helping precious materials like food and beverage cartons avoid the landfill and be redirected into new paper products or sustainable building materials. The Carton Council also offers case studies, templates, and tools to support schools with implementation.
The Carton Council is a coalition of four major food and beverage carton manufacturers—Elopak, Novolex Pactiv Evergreen, SIG, and Tetra Pak—that works to enhance collection, sorting, and recycling of used cartons in Canada and the U.S.
