The WEPA Group has announced a major investment to expand its UK operations, centered on the installation of a new paper machine at its Bridgend site.

The project, which includes two new converting lines and a full palletising system upgrade, is expected to be completed within two years.

The new paper machine will add an annual capacity of 70,000 tons, enhancing WEPA’s ability to supply high-quality hygiene paper products such as toilet paper and kitchen towels to the British market. The site currently employs about 345 people.

“The UK is a key strategic market for us,” said WEPA CEO Martin Krengel. “This investment will help us grow alongside our partners and meet their sustainability expectations.”

Harm Bergmann-Kramer, COO of the WEPA Group, highlighted the project’s focus on increasing capacity, efficiency, and sustainability. The new equipment is designed to reduce water and energy usage and minimize waste, while also enabling greater use of recycled fibers in hygiene paper production.

Bridgend Mill Manager Jordi Goma-Camps Trave emphasized the project’s local impact: “This investment will help secure the future of the site and protect jobs in the region.”

The project is supported by the Welsh Government’s Environmental Protection scheme and reinforces WEPA’s position as the third-largest manufacturer of hygiene paper in Europe.

Headquartered in Arnsberg, Germany, the WEPA Group is one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of hygiene paper products, including toilet paper, kitchen towels, tissues, and paper napkins. With a strong focus on sustainability and innovation, WEPA operates 13 production sites across Europe and employs around 4,000 people. The company emphasizes the use of recycled fibers and aims to provide environmentally responsible solutions to both retail and professional customers.
