Metsä Board Earns CDP Triple A Rating

Sustainability

Metsä Board has been named the only Nordic company to achieve CDP’s Triple A rating, placing it among a small group of global leaders recognised for environmental transparency and performance.

CDP, a global non-profit operating the world’s leading environmental disclosure system, assessed nearly 20,000 companies worldwide in its latest reporting cycle. Only 23 companies achieved the highest possible rating, which requires top scores across Climate Change, Forests and Water Security.

The Triple A distinction reflects comprehensive disclosure, mature environmental governance and measurable progress in managing climate and nature-related risks. For Metsä Board, the recognition highlights long-term efforts to reduce emissions, safeguard forest resources and strengthen water stewardship across its operations.

Chief Executive Officer Esa Kaikkonen said the rating also supports customers’ sustainability goals, noting that many participate in CDP disclosure themselves. By advancing fossil-free production, Metsä Board helps lower customers’ Scope 3 emissions, while its operations in low water-risk areas in Finland and Sweden support water security. The company also promotes forest growth, biodiversity and resilience through regenerative forestry practices.

CDP’s annual disclosure and scoring process is widely regarded as the global benchmark for corporate environmental transparency, evaluating not only data quality but also governance and environmental outcomes.

Metsä Board produces lightweight folding boxboards, food service boards and white kraftliners made from renewable Northern European wood fibres, and aims to achieve fully fossil-free mills and raw materials by 2030.
