Packaging Corporation of America (PCA) revealed planned changes to its senior leadership team.
These changes include the retirement of Robert P. Mundy, the company’s Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer (CFO), effective May 1, 2025. Mundy, who has served as CFO since 2015, will remain with PCA in an advisory role until his planned retirement in March 2026.
Kent A. Pflederer, PCA’s General Counsel since 2007, will take over as the new Executive Vice President and CFO on May 1, 2025. Kent has been a trusted advisor to PCA’s leadership team and will now bring his extensive legal and strategic expertise to the finance function.
Additionally, PCA’s Executive Vice President of Corrugated Products, Thomas A. Hassfurther, has been named the company’s new President. Hassfurther, who has been with PCA since 1977, has led the corrugated products division since 2009 and will now oversee the company’s strategic growth efforts while continuing to lead the corrugated products business.
D. Ray Shirley, Senior Vice President of Corporate Engineering and Process Technology since 2019, has been appointed Executive Vice President of Corrugated Products. Shirley, who has been with PCA since 1996, will manage the day-to-day operations of the division while maintaining his oversight of the company’s engineering and technology initiatives.

Kowlzan, PCA’s Chairman and CEO, praised the leadership changes, emphasizing the contributions of the outgoing and incoming executives. “Bob has been instrumental to PCA’s growth and success,” said Kowlzan. “Kent’s deep experience in finance and strategic planning makes him the perfect fit to succeed Bob. Tom’s leadership of the corrugated products division has been vital to our growth, and we are confident he will continue to drive our strategic vision forward. Ray’s operational expertise and leadership will further strengthen our corrugated business.”
PCA is a leading producer of containerboard and corrugated packaging products in the U.S. and operates eight paper mills and 86 corrugated products plants across the country.
