Green Bay Packaging Earns Green Master Status Again

Sustainability

Green Bay Packaging Inc. has been recognized as a Green Master for the 16th consecutive year by the Sustainable Business Council, the highest designation within its Green Masters Program®.

The recognition reflects the company’s long-term integration of sustainability into its operations, governance and capital planning. Since the program’s launch in 2010, Green Bay Packaging has earned Green Master status every year.

Among its most significant current initiatives is a $1 billion energy modernization project at its kraft paper mill in Arkansas. The project is designed to deliver 100% onsite renewable energy through a combined heat and power system and is expected to cut Scope 1 emissions by 40% and Scope 2 emissions by more than 90%. Key upgrades include new recovery and biomass boilers and the installation of an electric turbine generator.

According to SBC, the Green Masters Program® assesses how effectively companies identify, manage and improve performance on material environmental and social issues, with an emphasis on continuous improvement.

Founded in 1933, Green Bay Packaging is a family-owned, vertically integrated producer of containerboard and paper-based packaging, operating more than 40 facilities across 16 U.S. states.
