International Paper (IP) has surpassed its sustainability target, conserving over one million acres of ecologically significant forestland six years ahead of schedule.
The company announced it has restored nearly 1,158,000 acres, enhancing biodiversity, carbon sequestration, and sustainable land management.
"We are thrilled to have surpassed one of our Healthy and Abundant Forest targets," said Sophie Beckham, Chief Sustainability Officer, highlighting the company's commitment to nature conservation.
IP's efforts include a $15.3 million investment in 2024 to renew partnerships with conservation organizations like the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation. Their Forestland Stewards Partnership, which has supported projects to restore or protect over 2.2 million acres of southern forests, received the 2024 Leadership in Sustainability Award from the American Forest and Paper Association.
The company also collaborates with the American Bird Conservancy to protect at-risk bird species, engaging stakeholders from fiber supply teams to local landowners in bird surveys, research, and bird-friendly forest management.
For over 125 years, IP has emphasized sustainable resource management. The company released its 2024 Sustainability Report, detailing progress on its Vision 2030 goals.
