A life cycle assessment commissioned by Mondi, a packaging and paper leader, found that its innovative Hug&Hold paper-based solution has a 43% lower carbon footprint compared to conventional plastic shrink wrap for PET bottle packs.

Hug&Hold comprises a kraft paper sleeve and corrugated handle to securely bundle bottles, replacing plastic shrink wrap. The LCA showed it outperforms virgin and recycled plastic shrink wrap across multiple environmental indicators like fossil resource use and water utilization.

"This LCA highlights our commitment to eco-friendly packaging that doesn't sacrifice quality," said Tarik Aniba, Sales & Marketing Director of Corrugated Solutions at Mondi. "With Hug&Hold, partners can meet sustainability goals reliably."

Mondi's Silvia Hanzelova noted the LCA provides vital data for customers aligned with Mondi's MAP2030 sustainability roadmap to create solutions "sustainable by design."

Mondi will host a free webinar on June 5th covering the beverage packaging market and Hug&Hold's sustainability benefits.
