Domtar leader Rob Melton, who heads the commercial side of our pulp and paper business, has helped shape our relationships with customers and consumers throughout his 30-year career.

Melton’s experience and expertise have delivered value across our industry through his work with industry allies at the American Forest & Paper Association, the Envelope Manufacturers Association Foundation and, most recently, as vice chair of the board of directors of the Paper and Packaging Board.

The Paper and Packaging Board was started in 2014 as the oversight board for the paper industry’s national promotion campaign. It’s funded by U.S. paper manufacturers and importers, including Domtar. In 2021, the campaign began messaging exclusively around the sustainability benefits of paper products and paper-based packaging.

The new campaign invites consumers to become “papertarians” — people who choose paper and paper-based products because of the positive effects these choices have on forests and the overall environment. From choosing products made of paper and packaging to practicing proper recycling, there are endless opportunities to be a papertarian.

In addition to being a Domtar leader, Melton is a lifelong papertarian. He’s the third generation of his family to work in the pulp and paper industry. His grandfather and mother also worked in the industry.

Today, Melton is responsible for developing and deploying the go-to-market strategy for our pulp and paper businesses, which includes all elements of sales and marketing. This Domtar leader has held multiple roles over the course of his career in a variety of positions in the communication and specialty papers segments.

“Domtar is known for its smart marketing and communications around product benefits and sustainability initiatives,” says Mary Anne Hansan, President of the Paper and Packaging Board. “Rob’s depth of marketing knowledge and experience has been incredibly helpful to our sustainability campaign. He has a great way of seeing through the lens of both consumers and customers, and the best way to talk with them.”

“I’m proud to be a part of the Paper and Packaging Board,” Melton says. “They play an important role in promoting our industry’s story. Paper is an everyday, earth-friendly choice that allows consumers to feel good about their purchase decisions. It’s more important than ever that we do everything we can to influence people to choose renewable paper whenever possible.”

In addition to his role with the Paper and Packaging Board, Melton recently served as chair of the American Forest & Paper Association’s printing and writing committee and is the current chairman of the board of trustees of the Envelope Manufacturers Association Foundation.

“Domtar is committed to remaining a leading provider of pulp and paper,” says Melton.

“It is important that we actively participate and serve our industry’s organizations to share the positive message about how our industry and products make people’s lives better every day. We have a great story to tell, and I am proud to help tell it.”
