UPM Raflatac, a global leader in self-adhesive labeling materials, is taking bold steps toward sustainability by removing Bisphenol-A (BPA) and Bisphenol-S (BPS) from its direct thermal laminate products in North America.
These compounds, often used in thermal printing materials, have raised environmental and health concerns. By working closely with suppliers, UPM Raflatac has ensured its products no longer contain BPA or BPS, setting a new standard for safer labeling solutions.
This decision also positions the company ahead of regulatory changes, including California’s Proposition 65 and Washington State’s Safer Products Act, which aim to reduce harmful chemicals in everyday products.
UPM Raflatac’s latest achievement highlights its dedication to sustainable innovation. By eliminating BPA and BPS, the company not only mitigates potential risks but also helps reduce the environmental footprint of labeling materials—an increasingly important goal in today’s eco-conscious world.
“We’re incredibly proud of the effort and expertise our team has poured into making this transition happen, well ahead of our original timeline,” said Zach Franklin, Director of Variable Information Label Solutions at UPM Raflatac Americas. “This milestone shows our commitment to providing safer, smarter, and more sustainable solutions for our customers.”
