Mercer Holz GmbH has taken a major step toward climate-friendly logistics with the presentation of two fully electric trucks during its Open Day at the Mercer Rosenthal pulp mill.
The new e-trucks will soon begin transporting wood chips between the Mercer Timber Products sawmill in Friesau and the Rosenthal facility.
The electric transport initiative is part of a broader E-truck and Infrastructure project supported by €1.03 million in funding from Germany’s Federal Ministry of Transport and the EU’s NextGenerationEU program. The investment includes high-power charging stations at the Friesau site, expected to be operational in June.
“These e-trucks show that economic efficiency and environmental protection can go hand-in-hand,” said Mercer Holz Managing Director Martin Stöhr.
Parliamentary State Secretary Christian Hirte praised Mercer Holz’s leadership in zero-emission logistics, calling the initiative “a pioneering move” toward achieving Germany’s 2045 climate goals.
The project highlights Mercer’s long-term commitment to sustainability through innovation, aiming to reduce emissions, boost efficiency, and modernize transport across the forestry sector.
