The close of 2021 marked a big safety milestone for our Whitecourt Pulp Division: for the first time since its start-up in 1988, the pulp mill passed an entire calendar year with no recordable incidents – that’s 0 lost-time accidents and 0 medical treatments.

Safety coaching is a systematic approach to lead safe behavior. Coaches discuss safety with their peers on a one-to-one basis, encouraging everyone to leverage personal commitment on safety. Personal responsibility and commitment to safety are especially highlighted during company-wide Safety Week.

The Better Practices, Better Planet 2020 sustainability initiative recognizes the three essential pillars of sustainability — economic, environmental and social — interdependent factors that collectively support long-term viability, growth and improvement.

In environments where people and heavy machines co-exist there is always an imminent risk of accidents. As a company, we have the responsibility to take every measure we can to avoid those risks and ensure that each colleague gets home safe every day.

In November, Stora Enso celebrated its annual Safety Week, under the theme of “Caring for each other”. Due to Covid-19, many activities were held online as webinars, but there were also physical ones at the mills.
