The Better Practices, Better Planet 2020 sustainability initiative recognizes the three essential pillars of sustainability — economic, environmental and social — interdependent factors that collectively support long-term viability, growth and improvement.

In environments where people and heavy machines co-exist there is always an imminent risk of accidents. As a company, we have the responsibility to take every measure we can to avoid those risks and ensure that each colleague gets home safe every day.

In November, Stora Enso celebrated its annual Safety Week, under the theme of “Caring for each other”. Due to Covid-19, many activities were held online as webinars, but there were also physical ones at the mills.

Four Resolute operations in Quebec recently reached significant safety milestones, allowing them to donate a total of $25,000 to their chosen community organizations as part of our Board of Directors Safety Award program.

Life can change in an instant. That’s why, as part of our commitment to workplace safety, we support trained Emergency Response Teams that are always onsite and ready to serve at each of our pulp and paper mills.

Safety is a combination of culture and attitude at UPM’s pulp mills in Finland. Each year, its Kymi, Kaukas and Pietarsaari mills produce impressive safety records across an industry with accident potential.
